This X-ray shows a tack accidentally swallowed by a Chinese carpenter

The X-ray machine has been chosen by the public as the most important scientific invention in a Science Museum poll.
The 1895 invention, by German physicist Wilhelm Conrad Rontgen, won by a large margin.
It secured about a fifth of nearly 50,000 votes cast ? far ahead of the Apollo 10 capsule and the steam engine.

Medical breakthroughs dominated the vote, carried out to mark the museum's 100th birthday.
